CREST Aims to Strengthen the
Academic Infrastructure
The CREST program is intended to
increase the research productivity of faculty at minority-serving institutions,
as part of NSF’s broader objective of strengthening the research and education
capabilities more generally of minority-serving academic institutions.
To that end, the program has the
following objectives:
-
to enhance the research capabilities
and education activities at the most productive minority-serving institutions;
-
to produce new knowledge;
-
to enhance the national research competitiveness
of individual faculty;
-
to promote organizational connections
and linkages between CREST institutions and outstanding research and development
organizations;
-
to foster integration of research and
education at CREST institutions; and
-
to increase participation in STEM disciplines
by a diverse student population.
Although program funds are awarded to
academic institutions, the benefits to students come in the form of an
improved research infrastructure, better educational offerings, higher-quality
faculty, and more opportunities to work with industry and other potential
employers. |
